I haven't got one!!
The corner local shop seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur, round these parts.
Which is strange, right?
We're a country town!
They've been squeezed out by the convenience of big supermarkets.
The baker, butcher and fruit shops are all still going, it's just the little corner shop that has died out.
But I'm "posamistic" that they will have their day again!
Bloggers from around the world have participated in today's theme day.
Check them out

Safeway, Ararat - March, 2008
It's still Sat here in Malaysia. I went to the portal and found your photo as the very 1st posting for Theme Day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Day!
Great to see a shot of your local store!
J.C. of Subang Jaya Daily Photo
Corner store or not, it's a lovely black & white photo. I love the expanse of shop floor in the foreground.
ReplyDeleteI hope the smaller grocery store survives. I don't like big supermarkets.
ReplyDeleteI like smaller grocery store too!
ReplyDeleteLove your black & white photo!
Wow this TOTALLY could be the average grocery store in California! The shorts, the running shoes, all the dairy products on the shelves. Too funny! I do think Australia and California are alike in a lot of ways; just opposite seasons and a few other distinctions of course. This is a wonderful photo and I like that it's in B&W!!
ReplyDeleteBut it's a magnificent photo! Very very nice. We still have general, village stores in every village.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place in a supermarket is the dairy case - good choice!
ReplyDeleteDifficult choice I guess... Good one. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThose shorts. And even in the diary section. You must have better weather then we do.
ReplyDeleteI do like your photography. The one yesterday is really neat.
ReplyDeleteAlso I like this theme day post.
That looks like it could be here! I like your photo and it's nice in B&W :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo, great in black and white also. I remember the same thing happening in Kangaroo Island the last time I was there too. It's sad really.
ReplyDeleteat least it looks a reasonable well stocked supermarket
ReplyDeleteIt's always sad to see little shops forced to close their doors. But all of us love those big convenience stores so I guess we really can't have it all, can we?
ReplyDeleteFlattering shorts on the fellow on the left!
ReplyDeleteI suppose the concept of "local" is a bit different where you are as well. The corner shops I remember from my yoof were ones you could pop out to in your slippers for that pint of milk you'd forgotten. I'm imagining that in the wilds of Oz you need to hop in your 4X4, or catch a plane
ReplyDeleteThere is still a culture of the local shop her in Switzerland. And in small villages such as where I live there is generally a village store, although these are gradually being threatened by the same economic forces as elsewhere.
NB on the subject of things being threatened by economic forces, I wrote a little piece about cricket on my "other blog" forthmedia.com/blog
JC - I can't find my photo in the portal!!! Oh well, at least I know it's there.
ReplyDeleteJELLY - yeah, I liked that bit too!
ReplyDeleteThat was my first outing taking surreptitious photos (it was fun!)
STEFFE - I reckon they will have their day again.
ReplyDeleteSONIA - it's much better in black and white than in colour - way too busy.
ReplyDeleteKATIE - you should see Sydney! I think it would be heaps more like California.
ReplyDeleteWHOA - Andree - my store pales into insignificance next to your extraordinary offering.
ReplyDeleteYours is simply the "most awesomest" corner I've ever seen in my life!!!!
USELAINE - I don't really ever go near the dairy section!
ReplyDeleteExcept for milk.
Clearly, I'm not getting my rdi of calcium.
Lachezer - I didn't know you called them Dairies - they call them milk bars here in Victoria. In Queensland, they are just "the shop".
ReplyDeleteINEKE - Well...it was taken a couple of months ago in Autumn - it's still very hot here in March.
ReplyDeleteThanks ABRAHAM.
ReplyDeleteMy posts have been a bit light on this month.
Kinda makes a mockery of the "daily" part of daily photo.
Tanya - do you think supermarkets look the same all the world over?
ReplyDeleteD - you lived on Kangaroo Island?!!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome is that?
What was it like?
HYDE DP - at least.
ReplyDeleteANN - you're right!!!
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I do love a bit of Safeway action!
KRIS - people in glass houses....
ReplyDeleteThat's right, I've seen your little pins sticking out of your shorts.
RICHARD - oh, definitely.
ReplyDeleteSafeway is approximately 10 houses from my front door!
